OpenAI Launches “ChatGPT Health” to Revolutionize Personal Wellness Management
Tech News, San Francisco, January 10, 2026 : OpenAI officially unveiled ChatGPT Health, a dedicated, secure ecosystem within ChatGPT that allows users to bridge the gap between their medical records, wellness data, and artificial intelligence. This move transforms the chatbot from a general-purpose AI into a personalized “health super-assistant” capable of providing insights grounded in a user’s actual medical history.
The launch comes as OpenAI reveals that over 230 million people globally now turn to ChatGPT for health-related questions every week.
Bridging the Data Gap: Medical Records & Wellness Apps
At the heart of the new service is a landmark partnership with b.well Connected Health. This integration allows U.S. users to securely link their Electronic Health Records (EHR) from a network of over 2.2 million providers and 320 health plans.
Beyond clinical records, ChatGPT Health integrates with a suite of popular wellness and lifestyle platforms:
Fitness & Activity: Apple Health (iOS), Peloton, and All Trails.
-
Nutrition & Weight: MyFitnessPal, Weight Watchers (including specialized guidance for GLP-1 users), and Instacart.
-
Diagnostics: Function Health for longitudinal lab data.
Key Capabilities
The platform is designed to assist with “the admin of being a patient” and daily wellness, including:
-
Lab Decoding: Translating complex blood work and imaging reports into plain, actionable language.
-
Appointment Readiness: Generating personalized summaries and lists of questions for users to take to their doctors.
-
Insurance Navigation: Analyzing prior claims and usage patterns to help users compare the trade-offs of different insurance plans.
-
Pattern Recognition: Identifying links between sleep, activity, and nutrition data to suggest lifestyle adjustments.
Privacy & The “Sandbox” Architecture
Recognizing the extreme sensitivity of medical data, OpenAI has implemented a sandboxed security model:
-
-
Isolation: Health conversations live in a separate tab with their own “memory.” Data from Health does not flow into standard ChatGPT chats.
-
No AI Training: OpenAI explicitly stated that conversations and files within ChatGPT Health are never used to train its foundation models.
-
User Authority: Connections to medical records require explicit, multi-step authorization, and users can disconnect or delete their records at any time.
-
Encryption: The service uses purpose-built encryption for health data both at rest and in transit.
-
Safety Standards: “HealthBench”
To ensure clinical rigor, OpenAI collaborated with over 260 physicians across 60 countries. The model was vetted using Health Bench, a safety framework introduced in late 2025. This benchmark measures the AI’s ability to provide clear information while knowing exactly when to “escalate” a user to professional medical care.
Availability
Regions: Initially rolling out in the United States. It is currently unavailable in the UK, Switzerland, and the European Economic Area (EEA) as OpenAI works with regional regulators on data compliance.19
Access: Rolling out first to a select group of early adopters on the waitlist, with broader availability for Free, Go, Plus, and Pro users expected in the coming weeks.
