Optiemus Electronics Inks ₹125 Crore Manufacturing Pact with NxtQuantum for “Sovereign” AI+ Smartphones

Tech News, Noida, 14 March, 2026: In a major boost to India’s “Aatmanirbhar Bharat” (Self-Reliant India) initiative, Optiemus Electronics Limited (OEL) has officially signed a strategic memorandum of understanding with NxtQuantum Shift Technologies. The deal, valued at ₹125 crore, aims to establish a complete domestic ecosystem for the newly branded “Ai+ Smartphones.”
Under the terms of the agreement, Optiemus will utilize its advanced manufacturing facilities in Noida to produce up to 3 million mobile devices annually. The partnership isn’t limited to just handsets; it also covers the production of tablets, wearables, and IoT devices.
According to OEL Executive Chairman Ashok Gupta, the project is expected to create over 1,200 specialized jobs in the region, focusing on high-tech assembly and quality testing.
The Rise of NxtQuantum OS
The cornerstone of this partnership is the software powering the hardware. The Ai+ devices will run on NxtQuantum OS, a “sovereign” mobile operating system built on the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) but heavily customized for Indian security standards.
-
Data Residency: Unlike standard Android builds that may route telemetry data to global servers, NxtQuantum OS ensures all user data stays within MeitY-approved cloud regions in India.
-
Security Architecture: The OS features a “Zero-Trust” framework, providing enhanced protection against unauthorized data harvesting and malware.
-
Localized AI: The “Ai+” branding refers to integrated, locally-trained AI models that support regional Indian languages and context-aware productivity tools.
Madhav Sheth, CEO of NxtQuantum, emphasized that this move is about more than just hardware. “We are moving beyond ‘Assembled in India’ to ‘Authored in India.’ By owning the OS and the manufacturing pipeline, we ensure that Indian consumers have a choice that prioritizes their privacy and national data security.”
