Google Photos Debuts AI 'Wardrobe'

San Francisco, 30 April, 2026: In a significant leap for AI-driven personalization, Google has officially unveiled its latest innovation for Google Photos: the AI ‘Wardrobe’ feature. Leveraging advanced computer vision and generative AI, the tool transforms a user’s photo library into a sophisticated digital closet, effectively turning the app into a premier virtual stylist.

The Virtual Closet Experience

The core functionality of AI ‘Wardrobe’ lies in its ability to scan years of uploaded images to identify specific garments, footwear, and accessories worn by the user. Using precise “segmentation” technology, the AI clips these items from old photos and catalogs them into a high-definition Digital Closet.

Key highlights of the feature include:

  • The AI intelligently sorts items into specific collections such as Tops, Bottoms, Outerwear, and Footwear without requiring manual input.

  • Users can project these digitized garments onto a personalized AI avatar to see how different pieces look together in a 3D space.

  • The “Style Engine” suggests new combinations based on current fashion trends, local weather data, and the user’s historical preferences.

  • A new ‘Moodboard’ tool allows users to curate outfits for upcoming trips or events and share them with friends for feedback.

Strategic Partnerships and Availability

While the feature will eventually roll out to all Google One subscribers, it is making its exclusive debut on the newly launched Motorola Razr (2026) series. This partnership highlights a deep integration between Google’s software and Motorola’s hardware, specifically optimized for the foldable “Daily Drops” interface.

Google emphasized that all garment processing happens with a focus on privacy. The AI identifies “objects” (clothing) rather than focusing on body biometrics, and users have full control over which albums the AI is permitted to scan.

“We are moving beyond just storing memories,” said a Google spokesperson during the announcement. “With AI Wardrobe, we are making your past choices useful for your future style.”

The feature is expected to begin a broader rollout across Android and iOS platforms starting in June 2026.
