Google Removes All K-12 School Reviews from Business Profiles

The policy targets primary, elementary, middle, and high schools providing K-12 education

Listen to this article

Google has implemented a policy to remove all existing reviews and ratings from Google Business Profiles (formerly Google My Business) for K-12 schools categorized as “general education,” effective April 30, 2025, worldwide. This change blocks new reviews and aims to prevent unhelpful, prank, or misleading feedback that could harm schools’ reputations, building on a 2019 policy that was inconsistently enforced until now. While some profiles may still show reviews temporarily during the rollout, they are being systematically deleted.

Policy Scope

The policy targets primary, elementary, middle, and high schools providing K-12 education, but spares preschools, colleges, universities, vocational, and postgraduate institutions. Schools with mixed categories (e.g., including preschool) might retain reviews by adjusting profiles or creating separate listings before the deadline, though Google may flag mismatches. Essential profile features like contact info, photos, posts, and insights remain available.

Implications for Schools

Schools must shift online reputation management to official websites, social media, and third-party platforms, focusing on verified achievements and student life to build trust with parents. This reduces competition over ratings and fake review battles but challenges schools reliant on Google stars for visibility. Experts view it as promoting transparency, encouraging quality content over potentially biased public input.

What are K-12 Schools?

K-12 schools offer education from kindergarten (K) through 12th grade, covering elementary (grades K-5/6), middle (grades 6/7-8), and high school (grades 9-12) levels. In India, this aligns with pre-primary through higher secondary education before college. These institutions prepare students for higher education or careers.
